Turlock's Joe Debely Statium getting new track and field

Installation of the new all-weather synthetic track and field is under way at Turlock High School.

The $3.6 million improvement project at Joe Debely Stadium is expected to be complete by the beginning of the school year.

One thing missing from the track and field will be any kind of logo. Turlock and Pitman high schools use the stadium for their home games, and going sans logo saved money.

The city paid for the bulk of the effort, giving the school district $2.8 million in redevelopment money for the project.

The payment sparked contentious City Council discussions and a lawsuit from a citizens group, which since has been dropped.
