(BART AH YOU/bahyou@modbee.com) - During a court appearance in Modesto on Friday, Riverbank City Councilman Jesse James White was ordered to return Aug. 30 to set a trial date. The 21-year-old White is facing one count of felony possession of cocaine and two counts of misdemeanor possession of marijuana after authorities say they found those substances in his home during a search in May.

A group trying to recall Riverbank Councilman Jesse James White will begin gathering signatures today.

Riverbank Citizens for Fair Change will have a booth at the farmers market in the Community Center Park.

The farmers market is open from 5 to 8 p.m. The Riverbank City Clerk's office confirmed Tuesday that the recall group has met the requirements to start gathering signatures.

The group will need 2,500 valid signatures to place the recall before voters, said Dotty Nygard, one of the recall organizers.

She said 125 volunteers have signed up to help gather signatures, but more help is welcomed. She said people who want to help or sign the petition can call her at 968-7989.

White, 21, has been ordered to stand trial on drug possession charges. He has rebuffed calls for him to resign and has proclaimed his innocence.
