Turlock kidnapping suspect arrested

May 14, 2010

Police on Wednesday night arrested a 23-year-old Turlock man suspected of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend, a department spokesman said Thursday.

The 25-year-old woman escaped after being driven around west Turlock for a couple of hours.

She suffered bruises during the incident and was treated for chest pains at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Her former boyfriend, Jesus Rodriguez, was arrested later that night at his workplace, according to police Lt. Steve Williams.

The incident began at 7:30 p.m. when the woman left her house to go jogging.

While at Donnelly Park, Rodriguez drove up, approached her and pulled her into the car, Williams said. He drove around the west side of Turlock.

The woman was able to call her mother on her cell phone. But Rodriguez took the phone from her and tossed it out the window, Williams said.

About 9:20 p.m., Rodriguez was driving near South Tegner Road and pulled into a private driveway to turn around. Williams said the woman got out of the car and escaped as Rodriguez tried to grab her arm. She used the phone of a nearby resident to call her ex-husband to pick her up. They went to Rodriguez's mother's house, Williams said, to tell her what her son had done.

Police were called, and Rodriguez was arrested an hour later.
