Hughson recall moves forward

April 8, 2010

Stanislaus County Clerk Lee Lundrigan has finished checking the petitions Hughson residents submitted to recall three City Council members.

She did not disclose the results immediately at the request of Hughson City Clerk Annabelle Aguilar.

Aguilar is to take possession of the petitions today and declare the next steps

The recall is aimed at Councilmen Thom Crowder, Doug Humphreys and Ben Manley. About 1,000 signatures were submitted to recall each of them.

The city has about 6,000 residents. The recall can move forward as long as 753 of those signatures are verified for each councilman.

A residents' group circulated the petitions against the councilmen, whom a Stanislaus County civil grand jury found had violated state open meeting law and conspired to fire City Manager Joe Donabed.
