Stanislaus District Girls Basketball Rankings

LARGE SCHOOLS -- GIRLS

1. (1) Turlock (23-5): Same old, as 'Dogs dominate CCC but fall in first round of playoffs. Look for more Saturday games in 2011.

2. (2) East Union (23-6): Business as usual, as EU wins VOL, wins first-round game but then can't get quarterfinal competition.

3. (3) Modesto (16-10): Panthers impressed in D-1 opener at McNair, but they'll need to develop more scoring for next season.

4. (4) Sonora (16-12): Wildcats did a good job with their talent, making sure ball stayed close to Kelli Keefe and Brittany Malone.

5. (5) Pitman (16-12): Jasmine Washington and Ashley Attaway drove Pride to strong regular-season finish and D-2 playoff spot.

6. (nr) Manteca (17-11): What a finish! Coach Hiatt has a baby boy, Buffs stun rival EU and earn playoff berth -- all in 48 hours.

7. (nr) Oakdale (19-9): 1-1 in D-3 playoffs and had VOL MVP in junior guard Cassandra Clark. She needs more help next season.

8. (nr) Enochs (18-9): Only MMC losses were to Modesto, but Eagles didn't have any signature wins second half of the season.

9. (nr) Atwater (14-13): Coach Jason Boesch gets Falcons to the playoffs. Goal next year is to continue building the program.

10. (nr) Weston Ranch (16-11): Cougars were the district's best team not to qualify for the playoffs. Late losses hurt their cause.

SMALL SCHOOLS -- GIRLS

1. (1) Modesto Christian (28-4): Coach Robb Spencer has built a program that no one can challenge, and it keeps getting better.

2. (2) Argonaut (30-2): Hurt by late-season injury to point guard, but win total inflated by soft teams: 2 losses by total of 45 points.

3. (3) Patterson (20-8): Cassie Coble led Tigers for four years. This was her most impressive while taking them to WAC co-title.

4. (4) Livingston (18-9): Coach Luciana Lacey has built a winner on West Side, though playoffs are tough because Wolves go D-3.

5. (nr) Linden (20-9): Lions were a sure-bet semifinal team in section playoffs, but got stuck playing MC in the quarterfinals

6. (5) Ripon (16-11): Indians might have won WAC, would have won the SL, but won't be winning TVL so long as MC is there.

7. (nr) Calaveras (16-9): Third-best team in the MLL, which was district's top small-school league. Ws over Sonora, Hughson, RC.

8. (nr) Turlock Christian (28-6): Played for section title for only second team in school history. Weak SL schedule is a problem.

9. (nr) Orestimba (18-10): Sarah Spaulding was one of those do-everything kids that make small-school hoops fun to watch.

10. (nr) Le Grand (18-9): Late-season upset of TC gets Bulldogs final spot. RC's move into SL next year will help the top teams.
