Think the Modesto City Council deserves a raise? Want to cut the council's pay? Share your opinions at today's meeting of the Citizens Salary Setting Commission. It meets in Room 6709 on the sixth floor of Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St., downtown Modesto.

The contact is City Clerk Stephanie Lopez at 577-5396.

The panel meets every two years to review council members' pay. When the group met in 2008, it recommended giving council members a raise to $2,000 a month, up from $800. The mayor makes $3,600 a month.

The commission is scheduled to make a recommendation to the council April 27 on whether to raise, lower or keep council salaries the same.

But before that happens, it wants input from the public.
