VALLEJO — Brandon Taylor has been a tremendous addition to the Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team this spring.

On Tuesday, he completed his best tournament as a Warrior, shooting a 75 for an one-over score to win the Cal State East Bay Pioneer Shootout.

Cal State Monterey Bay (896) won the tournament at Vallejo's Hiddenbrooke Golf Club's par 72, 6,698-yard layout, overtaking Stanislaus (904) which entered the day with the lead.

"I was hoping we could hold on and get our second win of the spring but Monterey Bay played great golf," Stanislaus head coach John Cook said. "It is nice to see our team getting into contention to be able to win. I know they are glad to see some results from the hard work they are putting in."

For Taylor, a sophomore transfer from Oregon State, this is his third consecutive tournament in which he shot 218 or better. He has also finished in the top 10 in all three events.

Baseball

SONOMA ST. 11, CSUS 4, at Rohnert Park — The Seawolves scattered 16 hits against seven Stanislaus pitchers in a nonconference game.

The Warriors (9-11) gave many reserve players some playing time after a four-game weekend set against Cal State San Bernardino. Sonoma State (9-9) scored eight runs in the middle innings to run away with the win.

Stanislaus took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on a two-run double by Michael Johnson to center field. But that was the last lead the Warriors would have.

The Seawolves scored twice in the fourth and five times on six hits in the fifth to pull away.

Softball

SIERRA 1, MJC 0, at Rocklin — Samantha Baker had 15 strikeouts and gave up just two hits to lead Sierra to a victory over Modesto, which held the Big 8 Conference foe to one run.

Sierra, which has won eight of the last nine conference titles, had its lead-off hitter reach on an error in the sixth inning, and scored after back-to-back singles with two outs. Modesto pitcher Daffani Gaynor allowed just four hits in six innings.

Men's Tennis

FRESNO CITY 8, MJC 1, at Fresno — The doubles team of Doug Chesney and Trevor Wright scored the Pirates' only victory — 6-2, 6-4 — over the Rams' Luiz Bernardes and Bruno Nagel.

Women's Tennis

FRSNO CITY 6, MJC 3, at Fresno — Modesto's lone singles victory came from No. 1 player Brooke McCawley who beat Kate Abston 6-3, 6-4. McCawley teamed with Amanda DeLeon to beat the Rams' Ashly Cross and Andera Pereyra 6-3, 6-4.
