Modesto City Schools trustees will hold public hearings tonight to discuss employee salary cuts and unpaid furlough days.

Administrators are asking employee unions for a 12.5 percent cut.

In addition, teachers are being asked to take seven unpaid furlough days, five from classroom days and two from training. Classified staff would be furloughed three days.

Union leaders and members must agree to the proposal. They're offering their own proposals, dealing mainly with non-financial items.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the district office boardroom, 425 Locust St.
