A 25-year-old Modesto man who was shot Monday night in a northeast Modesto parking lot had been treated and released from a hospital Tuesday as police looked for a suspect in the attack.

The shooting occurred about 7:45 p.m. near the Quik Stop Market at 1532 Lakewood Ave., at the intersection with Briggsmore Avenue. The attack appeared to be the result of an attempted robbery, said Sgt. Rick Armendariz, a Modesto police spokesman. Officers responded and found the gunshot victim near the convenience store.

Police searched the area but did not find the gunman, who is described as a black man, 17 to 18 years old, wearing a white knit cap, blue pants and brown hoodie lined with fur.

Police ask anyone with information about this shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Tipsters can e-mail tips through the Crime Stoppers Web site, www.modestopolice.com/CrimeStoppers, or text tips to CRIMES (274637) by typing "Tip704" and a message. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
