LARGE SCHOOLS

1. (1) Turlock (20-4): Candace Sakuda is giving Bulldogs plenty of presence around the hoop, teaming with Camille Roberts and Kayla Schumann to provide three legitimate scoring threats.

2. (2) East Union (19-4): Lancers atop the district's best and deepest league, and are carrying a seven-game winning streak.

3. (4) Sonora (14-10): Winning five of six has Sonora in second place in VOL; Win over Weston Ranch makes it No. 3 in rankings.

4. (nr) Manteca (15-9): Buffs have dropped a few questionable games in league, but winning four of the last five is impressive.

5. (3) Modesto (13-9): Panthers stunned by Johansen, but with all the talent on the roster, no reason they shouldn't win the rest.

SMALL SCHOOLS

1. (1) Modesto Christian (19-4): Loss to D3 state-ranked Sacramento won't hurt' power rating, but it does leave questions about Crusaders' ability to win state title -- the one goal still to elude them.

2. (2) Argonaut (23-0): Last regular-season challenge was taken care of with 56-38 win over No. 3 Linden; Looking at 27-0 mark. 3. (3) Linden (15-7): Lions clearly the district's third-best team, but there is a canyon-sized chasm between top two and the rest.

4. (4) Livingston (15-7): Nine-game winning streak has Wolves atop the WAC; All eyes look toward Feb. 15 game vs. Patterson.

5. (nr) Patterson (16-7): Tigers have won nine of 11, with both losses to Livingston, but second-place Tigers get one more shot.
