CSUS baseball sweeps Art squad

TURLOCK • With a second consecutive day of offensive outbursts, the Cal State Stanislaus baseball team swept the Academy of Art on Sunday, 17-2 and 10-0.

Vince Hungerford hit a three-run homer to start the Warriors' day. He finished with three hits and four RBIs in an 18-hit game. Freshman Colton Beatty also had a big game going 3 for 5 with a double, a triple and four RBI.

Vinny Pacchetti picked up his first win of the year, striking out six in five innings. Andrew Stueve finished the last four innings, striking out nine.

In the second game, pitcher Eric Cendejas set the tone with six strikeouts and three hits in four innings. Casey Filkins had three hits and the heard of the order combined for six RBI.

The Warriors pounded out 44 hits in the three-game series and limited the Urban Knights to just eight.

Tennis

San Jose State defeated Stanislaus in its spring opener.

The top three Warriors • Verena Preikschas, Vanesa Reibstein and Katie Eng • all won their individual matches against Division I opponents.

The deciding match was No. 6 singles, which went to a tiebreaker. Jennifer Williams defeated Lexy Harrington 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3).
