Splat! Tomato truck spill creates a mess in Modesto

A truck carrying tomato paste spilled its load on northbound Mitchell Road near the bridge by the Modesto Airport just before noon today.

Clean-up crews used shovels to remove the mess, and a street sweeper was brought in to help. Some of the thick, red glop was at least six inches deep.

The spill occurred just past Finch Road.
