Name: Jose Hurtado, 38, Modesto

Synopsis: Jose Hurtado of Modesto was shot Nov. 22 in an apparent gang-related attack and died five days later at a hospital, said sheriff's Detective Darwin Hatfield. The shooting occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Inyo Avenue, west of Crows Landing Road and north of West Whitmore Avenue. Sheriff's officials said Hurtado had stepped outside a family member's home and was by his car on the road's shoulder when he was shot.

Motivation: While detectives believe the shooting was gang-related, Hatfield said, Hurtado did not appear to have any gang affiliation.

Suspects: Stanislaus County sheriff's officials in January were looking for a "person of interest," although detectives have declined any more information.
