Synopsis:Rafael Gudino, 14, of Modesto, was one of two teens shot the night of May 2, 2009. He and a 16-year-old boy were in a four-door car when they were shot near Vicksburg Street and Rouse Avenue. Police believe there was a third person in the car. Though Rafael was shot in the head, he had recovered enough to begin ninth grade at Modesto High School, his mother said. He took a turn for the worse in early December and was admitted to Children's Hospital Central California in Madera. He died Dec. 23.

Motivation:Sgt. Brian Findlen, a Modesto police spokesman, said investigators are confident the shooting is gang-related.

Suspect: The gunmen were described as two males wearing dark clothing. Police believe they were on foot.
