What do you do when the psychiatrists are more troubled than the patients?
Christopher Durang's 1981 comedy "Beyond Therapy" follows an offbeat couple who try to start a romantic relationship with the help of their therapists.
Ron Lane is directing a production for Modesto's Prospect Theater Project. Prudence (Laura Dickenson) and Bruce (Josh Bower) meet when Prudence answers Bruce's personal ad seeking a woman to start a family with. It turns out that Bruce has a male live-in lover (Charles Mullins), who isn't particularly happy about this new turn of events.
Prudence and Bruce turn separately to their own therapists (Kathleen Ennis and Sean Trew) for help, but they make things even more complicated.
The play was made into a movie in 1987 featuring Julie Hagerty and Jeff Goldblum and directed by Robert Altman.
