RIPON -- A man accused of robbing a Ripon bank was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with injuries after he crashed during a police chase Friday morning.

The man’s identity was not released. Ripon police officials said they would release the suspect’s name and photograph after conducting a photo lineup with witnesses to the bank robbery.

The robbery occurred around 10 a.m. at the Bank of Stockton on West Main Street, police said.

The man entered the bank wearing a mask, robbing one bank teller and then fleeing on foot, according to police.

As police pursued the suspect’s getaway car, the man lost control and rolled his vehicle on southbound Highway 99 near Hammett Road.

The suspect exited the damaged vehicle and was quickly apprehended at gunpoint.

A “large amount” of money was recovered from the suspect. It was believed to be money taken in the bank robbery, police said.

Officials are also looking at the same man as a “person of interest” in two robberies at Bank of the West in Ripon on Sept. 11 and Oct. 6.
