Nobody was injured this morning after a small fire broke out in a south Modesto home.

At 9:30 a.m., the Modesto Fire Department responded to the call of a fire at a single-story home in the 1800 block of Seattle Drive, just northwest of the corner of Crows Landing Road and Glenn Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they found a couch on fire inside the home and a lot of smoke billowing out.

The house is occupied, but nobody was home at the time, according to Sean Slamon, Modesto battalion chief.

He said there was more smoke than fire damage to the roughly 800 square-foot home. He estimated the damage between $25,000 and $30,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Slamon said.
