LARGE SCHOOLS

 1.  (1) Sierra (10-1): T-wolves showed they were a worthy No. 3 in D-3, as RB Jarrod Daniels went only a half in 59-6 rout of Mira Loma; hosting Benicia.

 2.  (2) Oakdale (10-1): Defense allowed only four first downs in 36-0 romp over Natomas. Mustangs back to their early form with running "D"; visiting Vanden.

 3.  (3) Los Banos (8-3): Nothing wrong with a little luck in playoffs; missed kicks at end of regulation in OT open door for LB to win 27-26; visiting Tracy.

 4.  (5) Sonora (9-2): 'Cats take advantage of playing at home, shut down Whitney in first round. Road trip this week, though, takes Sonora to top seed Lincoln.

 5.  (4) Manteca (7-4): Buffs were heading to second round of D-3 playoffs, but let 28-3 lead slip away in stunning defeat. Some great players are graduating.

 6.  (6) Modesto (7-4): Heartbreaker in Los Banos, as Panthers have first and goal on 4 in final minute and can't punch it in. RB James Ingram will be missed.

 7.  (7) Atwater (8-3): Any road win is impressive in playoffs; this one earned Falcons a trip to Rocklin.

SMALL SCHOOLS

 1.  (1) Central Catholic (10-1): Soph TB Craig Jones opened playoffs with a 100-yard game, and passing game on target; hosting pass-happy Summerville.

 2.  (2) Modesto Christian (11-0): MC toyed with Colfax in 64-7 rout. No other team can match this list of playmakers: Burse, Roya, Brown, Engel, Nelson.

 3.  (3) Escalon (10-1): After dispatching Hilmar in first round, focus shifts to D-4B quarterfinal at MC; MC beat then-No. 2 Cougars 21-16 in Week 9.

 4.  (4) Summerville (10-1): Cold weather didn't hurt the Bears, who turned to Taylor Gold and the defense to win opener and avenge early season loss to Ripon.

 6.  (6) Calaveras (7-4): Redskins roll into No. 2 Dixon and stun the Rams 18-14 behind running attack. The challenge gets more difficult Friday at No. 2 Placer.

 5.  (5) Ripon (7-4): Indians unable to get any traction in 33-0 loss to Summerville. Giving up points wasn't a surprise, but being held scoreless was a shocker.

 7.  (7) Hilmar (8-3): Classy finish following a difficult late-season injury helps 'Jackets earn this final spot.
