Division III Roundup: Sierra muscles Mira Loma; Patterson falls in OT

MANTECA -- Jarrod Daniels ran for 192 yards and three TDs Friday, and Sierra High scored a safety on its first defensive play of the game on its way to a 59-6 rout of Mira Loma to open the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 playoffs.

Daniels scored on e a 7-yard run to get things going, then Cody Dias tackled Desmond Smart in the end zone moments later for a 9-0 lead. TD runs by Daniels and Aaron Manuta made it 23-0 late in the opening quarter.

The No. 3 T-wolves (10-1) host Benicia (9-2) in the quarterfinals, after the Panthers beat Patterson 26-20 in overtime.

Sierra's Anthony Hall converted all eight PAT kicks, booted a 38-yard field goal and caught a 54-yard TD pass from Jonathan Davis to make it 46-0 late in the second quarter. Mira Loma's lone score came moments later, when Kenna McCord returned the kickoff 85 yards.

BENICIA 26, PATTERSON 20, at Benicia -- The No. 11 Tigers (6-5) scored with 1:30 remaining, on Wyatt Young's 27-yard toss from Cody Wienzheimermissed the all-important extra-point kick and were forced to go into overtime with the No. 6 Panthers (9-2).

After Patterson failed to score on its overtime possession -- each team gets the ball on the opponent's 10-yard line, with four plays to try and score -- Benicia scored from the 16 on a pass from Andrew McNeece to Chris Mamon to end it. It was the second time of the night the duo hooked up in the end zone.

McNeece tossed three TDs in the second quarter for a 20-7 lead -- Weinzheimer's 47-yard scoring toss to Nick Ward got the Tigers on the board -- then Weinzheimer's 1-yard TD made it 20-14.
