Modesto Junior College's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society will offer a 2009-10 Honors Seminar Series of DVD lectures entitled "The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges and Consequences" featuring nationally known speakers.

The first lecture is today from 5 to 7 p.m. and will feature journalist and former National Public Radio "Talk of the Nation" host Ray Suarez. The showing will be in Forum 101 on MJC's East Campus, 435 College Ave. A moderated question-and-answer period will follow each seminar.

The series is free and open to the public. Suarez will speak on "If You're So Rich, How Come You're Not Happier? America's Difficult Relationship With Class, Material Success and the Pursuit of Happiness."

The honor society will present two more DVD seminars on "The Paradox of Affluence" in the spring semester.

More information on the speakers is available online at www.ptk.org/honorsseminars.
