A Turlock Fire Department official termed as "suspicious" a vegetation fire in the 400 block of E. Minnesota Avenue on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the quarter-acre fire that threatened one structure, burned a large pine tree and damaged a nearby fence, according to Brian White, division chief with the Turlock Fire Department.

The fire, which was reported at 4:47 p.m., apparently started near a firewood pile.

Two engines and one battalion chief tended to the blaze, which was quickly extinguished. Nobody was injured. The damage to the fence, tree and wood was was estimated at $400.

Anyone with information about the fire is being asked to call the Turlock City Fire Administration at 668-5580.
