LEGAL PROFESSIONALS MEETING

FILM SHOWING

Info: Modesto Junior College will show the film "Manufactured Landscapes" as part of its Civic Engagement Project. The film follows photographer Edward Burtynsky at work in China, capturing images of industrialization and using his art to raise questions about the impact of mankind on our planet. The documentary will be followed by guest speaker Patricia Watts, founder of Ecoartspace, which works with artists who address environmental issues. BOOK FAIR

Info: The Friends of the Modesto Library will sponsor a Scholastic Book Fair. The fair will have children's books ranging from picture books to novels. On Saturday at 1:30 p.m., Clifford the Big Red Dog will be available for photos. Proceeds from the book sale support programs at the library. CIVICS CHALLENGE EVENT

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Road

Info: The Institute for Principle Studies is hosting the 2009 Civics Challenge, an event that tests knowledge on what made America great. Teams of eight will match wits in a game-show atmosphere. Tickets are $40 per person or $320 per table for participants, and $30 for spectators. For more information, call 575-2005.

DAY TRIPS

Info: The Modesto Junior College Community Education will host the following day trips in December. The trips depart from the west campus on Blue Gum Avenue.

Dec. 5, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m: San Francisco Christmas Shopping Trip. The cost is $42. Price includes chartered motor coach and goodie bag.

Dec. 13, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.: "Wicked" at the Orpheum Theatre. The cost is $149. There will be free time in Union Square to shop and have a no-host lunch before the 2 p.m. performance.
