RIVERBANK — The City Council is expected to decide tonight whether to submit an application to the Army to take over the former ammo plant turned industrial park.

The city hopes to acquire the 173-acre Claus Road site by April 1 at no cost.

The industrial park employs 300 workers at several businesses, and the city hopes to build on that by turning the park into an economic hub for green jobs.

The council also is expected to hear a report on the city Redevelopment Agency's worsening finances. Recently updated information shows a larger decrease in assessed property values for the agency and therefore less revenue to the agency.

"Staff is concerned about the ability to fund any further projects for several years to ensure that bond debt service payments are made," reads a staff report.

City officials also are concerned the state may take nearly $478,000 from the Redevelopment Agency this year, part of a potential state raid on redevelopment agencies to help balance the state budget.

Finally, the council will consider sending out notices to property owners and renters regarding a proposed sewer rate increase.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 6707 Third St.
