Everything else seems to take a back seat during an election week, but several meetings are scheduled:

— Modesto's Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustment hold a joint meeting at 6:30 p.m. today on neighborhood compatibility guidelines -- code changes to assure that people don't move into an older neighborhood and create a monster house that looks nothing like those around it. This conflict has surfaced in several older neighborhoods. Meeting location: Tenth Street Place, basement level, Room B300.

— The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday, with another gloomy budget report on the agenda. Basement, Tenth Street Place.

— At its 9 a.m. meeting Tuesday, the Turlock Irrigation District board will consider appointing someone to replace the late Phil Short on the board. Eleven people applied. Two other board seats are being filled in the election, meaning the five-member board soon will have three new faces. 333 E. Canal Drive.

— Because of the election, the Modesto City Council moved its meeting to Wednesday, but it's a very light agenda. 5:30 p.m., basement, Tenth Street Place.
