The election has provoked some interesting comments regarding removing incumbents or voting contrary to The Bee's endorsements as a matter of policy. District elections for City Council should be of interest to everyone.

I live in District 5, where Joe Cataline is challenging incumbent Kristin Olsen. I am voting for Cataline based on his record of working for families and youth and working to keep kids off the streets and involved in positive after-school programs. He states his intention to fight for the all the people of this community and not special interest groups.

I voted for Olsen in the last election, but her record is disappointing. No one likes shopping carts in their neighborhoods, and Dumpster diving isn't attractive. But Modesto has bigger problems.

Olsen's vote against rent control for seniors in mobile home parks was curious until records revealed she took a large contribution from Western Manufactured Housing.

Olsen has not represented all citizens of this community, and it is time for change. Special interests run our town into the ground.
