If trying everything has you going nowhere fast, consider the possibility that this might be the best time of your life to reinvent yourself, advise the career coaches at Jobinterview.com. Get motivated by understanding what reinventing yourself means. Visualize Madonna, the Queen of Reinvention. (No, don’t.) While she’s never been anything but an entertainer, she’s developed new emphases of herself, from sexy to spiritual. “Be inspired by her diverse personas,” say coaches at Jobinterview.com. “Just don't re-invent yourself with a shaved head, smashing cars with an umbrella.” Seek organic change.

Look outside yourself to see what you’re missing, the career coaches mention. You might be an out-of-work make-up artist whose skills are pre-historic. No training with HD technologies? Update or hunt for a different occupation.

Then, throw yourself into the new you. Create chances to network. Engage everyone at “industry events, seminars and classes,” they suggest, “everyone, from the folks at the dog park to the members of your running club . . . Your next blind date could be instrumental in landing your next job.” Ask for contacts and pursue them.

Reinventing yourself isn’t about putting on a Halloween mask. It’s about revision.
