Today is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election. Members of the League of Women Voters will be available from noon to 4 p.m. in the Modesto-Stanislaus Library with the registration forms. Citizens also can get forms at city offices and the Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters, 1020 I St.

Meanwhile, the league's candidate forums of recent weeks are being rebroadcast:

District 2, Modesto council, Mondays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 2 p.m., Comcast 26;

District 5, Modesto council, Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and Fridays at 2 p.m., Comcast 26;

District 4, Modesto council and Modesto City Schools board, Saturdays, 8 to 11 p.m. and Sundays 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., Comcast 7 and Charter 19.

On the agenda this week for local governing boards:

The Stanislaus County Fair Board today will discuss a date change for the 2010 fair, to avoid a conflict with the State Fair, which has been moved earlier in the summer. The fair board meets at the fairgrounds (of course) in the administration building at 900 N. Broadway, Turlock, starting at 5 p.m.

The Modesto Planning Commission, meeting at 7 tonight, holds a public hearing on a seven-story office, retail and residential building proposed at 10th and H streets. Basement, Tenth Street Place.

The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors holds its monthly evening meeting at 6:30 Tuesday in Modesto. The county Mental Health Board and Library boards are both presenting reports and we expect to hear about the impact of budget cuts. Basement, Tenth Street Place.

The second of two public hearings on the North County Corridor will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe St. Last week's hearing in Oakdale attracted a large crowd, especially for a stormy night, and a loud protest. The focus of this session, like last week's, is the segment of the corridor from McHenry Avenue to the east side of Oakdale.
