Feeling old? Do something for yourself and your job search. Diane Chapman and Susan Howington (powerconnectionsinc.com) send these tips:
— "Your HAIR! Listen up, Ladies AND Gentlemen!" A good, stylish cut conveys energy, openness to change and a youthful perspective. Getting it colored by a hairstylist will wipe years off your appearance.
— "Your PEARLY WHITES!" Make sure they are . . . and that your breath is fresh.
— "Your GLASSES!" Run to the nearest optical store to determine if your frames are out of style. Even those that are two years old may compromise the impression of readiness you're striving to make.
— "Your physical condition . . ." If there's something you've been putting off, this is your moment. Quit smoking with your doctor's help. Lose weight with exercise and intelligent eating. Ask your doctor for help in finding a smoking cessation expert, trainer or nutritionist, if you need one.
Focus on your message. "Buzz with the best concepts in your industry," Chapman and Howington write. Read up on issues affecting your industry here and abroad. Get a friend or family member to stop you when you use outdated terms such as "hairdresser" or "flight attendant."
Had you forgotten that job hunting wasn't a project? Chapman and Howington advise, "Just do it!"
