The Bee's high school football top seven large and small schools for week 2.

LARGE SCHOOLS

 1.  Davis (2-0): Though slowed by injuries, Spartans have outscored foes 86-21. Host No. 6 Sonora.

 2.  Oakdale (2-0): Minus its starting QB, Oakdale went old-school in a 34-22 win over NorCal No. 5 Novato 34-22, running it 60 times for 385 yards.

 3.  Buhach Colony (3-0): Unbeaten marks earn BC promotion, but the Thunder faces its first real test of the challenge Friday at No. 2 small Escalon.

 4.  Sierra (2-0): Timberwolves had found their QB in Jonathan Davis, which makes them co-favorites with Oakdale in VOL. Hosts No. 4 small Patterson.

 5.  Los Banos (2-1): Rebounds from poor outing vs. Tracy to beat rival Dos Palos 35-19 and win the West Side War. Visits state power St. Mary's.

 6.  Sonora (2-0): Dan Link has carried 'Cats first two weeks, but QB Ryan Emerald will be called on to make plays this week vs. top-ranked Davis.

 7.  Golden Valley (2-1): Plenty of offense with soph QB Tyler Arnsberg (41 points a game), but GV defense struggled in 42-28 loss to Jesuit.

SMALL SCHOOLS

 1.  Central Catholic (2-0): The Matthew Galas-led defense has been stout, shutting down potent Cardinal Newman and shutting out Sutter.

 2.  Escalon (2-0): Thought last week's game with rival Patterson was big? The Cougars host Buhach Colony's offensive juggernaut this week.

 3.  Modesto Chr. (2-0): About the only thing Isaiah Burse doesn't do is sell hot dogs and sodas at halftime. He had a hand in six TDs last week.

 4.  Patterson (1-1): Tigers were within a point of Escalon at halftime, before falling 30-13. No rest for the Tigers, though, who visit Sierra this week.

 5.  Argonaut (2-0): Outscored foes 111-6, but hard to gauge true talent against some inept foes.

 6.  Hilmar (2-0): QB Cade McCown opened up the passing game throwing for 250 yards and two TDs in an impressive rout of then-No. 7 Hughson.

 7.  Ripon (2-0): Knocking off Summerville earns the surprising Indians final spot in the rankings. The reward? Ripon hosts Argonaut this week.
