What office do you seek?

A seat on the Modesto City Schools Board of Education

What is the primary reason you are running for this office?

I am concerned about the quality of education that can be provided to students during this fiscal crisis. I strongly support 1)fiscal responsibility, 2)high academic standards 3)safe schools and 4)parental involvement.

What will be your single most important priority if you get elected?

Fiscal responsibility. Fiscal responsibility. Fiscal responsibility.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

I previously served on the school board. For the past 16 years I have been an active parent volunteer. I have legal and business experience that would benefit the board.

Where do you work and what is your job title? (If retired, list position before retirement)

I have been self-employed in private practice: Solange Goncalves Altman, Attorney at Law. I am the managing partner for the J & T Goncalves Family Limited Partnership, a farming operation.

What date were you born and where?

11/20/1955 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

What is your spouse's name, if any?

Steven Sewell Altman.

What are the names and ages of your children, if any?

Nicholas Joaquim Altman, age 21. Tatiana Louise Altman, age 17. Both graduated from Modesto High School (Nick in 2006, Tati in 2009), and earned I.B. diplomas. Nick is a senior at UC Davis; Tati enters UC Santa Cruz next week.

Please list the schools and colleges you attended, the degrees you attained and when.

I earned a B.A. from CSU Fresno (magna cum laude- English major/History minor) in 1977. I earned a J.D. from UC Davis in 1980.

Have you ever held an elected or appointed public office? (Include dates and office title)

I was appointed and served on the Modesto School Board from 11/92 to 11/93.

Have you run before for an elected public office? (Include dates and exact office title)

I ran in 11/93,but lost to Kate Nyegaard by 500 votes.

Approximately how much money do you expect to spend on your campaign?

I am hoping to spending around $1,000 on a campaign mailer and whatever the candidate statement turns out to be. I am loaning my campaign the money. I have received support from the Modesto Teacher’s Association, and will report whatever independent expenditures they make.

Have you ever been convicted or charged with a crime other than a minor traffic violation? If so, please explain and include dates and locations.

No convictions/ no charges ever.

Have you or a business you owned or had principal interest in ever filed bankruptcy? If so, please include dates and the location the bankruptcy was filed.

Never.
