ATWATER -- Bullard apparently has it in for Merced County. For the second time in two weeks, the Fresno school beat a Merced County school.

Displaying a quick-strike offense and hard-hitting defense, Bullard spoiled Atwater's season opener with a comfortable 35-12 victory on Friday evening at Falcon Field.

Bullard scored the first 35 points.

"They're a well-executing team," Atwater senior linebacker Jake Clevenger said, his separated shoulder wrapped in ice. "You rarely catch them making a mistake. Playing Bullard was a humbling experience. We'll learn from this. We'll get better."

Reserve running backs Kyle Staples and Devan Mack scored on 1-yard runs, and quarterback Kerr Taubler connected with Jajuan Hammond on an 80-yard TD with 2 seconds left in the first half to make it 21-0.

Atwater coach Bob Valladao could only watch -- hat in hand, cursing the sky -- as the game quickly got away from his team.

Atwater scored twice in the fourth quarter on a Nathan Sanchez 7-yard run and a 45-yard reception by Dalmaso. He finished with seven catches for 118 yards. Sanchez had 228 all-purpose yards.

SUMMERVILLE 42, BRADSHAW CHRISTIAN 21, at Sacramento -- Zach Roberson threw a couple of TD passes and Colton Kriet scooped up a fumble and returned it 80 yards for another score as the Bears pounded the defending Division VI runner-up. With the game tied at 7, the Bears' Taylor Gold scored on a 3-yard run and then Roberson found Dylan Gay downfield for a 34-yard score.

Bradshaw cut Summerville's lead to 21-14 by halftime, but Gold's 27-yard TD run in the third quarter provided a cushion before Roberson's 45-yard score to tight end Dustin Perkins.

CALAVERAS 38, WESTON RANCH 14, at San Andreas -- Monte Wilson had quite a coming out party. The junior running back ran 22 times for 238 yards and three touchdowns as the Redskins beat Weston Ranch. Wilson dominated the second quarter almost single-handedly, scoring on a 60-yard run, 11-yard run and a four-yard plunge.

Weston Ranch of Manteca had TDs from Jason Steele (an 8-yard run) and Griffin Alexander (5-yard run).

ARGONAUT 56, VALLEY 6 -- Daniel Welch carried the ball five times for 113 yards and two touchdowns and Steven Bennett had eight carries for 149 yards and four TDs as Argonaut had altogether easy time beating Valley of Sacramento. Argonaut pulled its starters after the first half.

TRACY 27, LOS BANOS 24, at Los Banos -- The Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter to slip past the Tigers, taking a 27-17 lead on a safety and Depray Celestine's TD run. LB's Erik Martin cut the deficit to 27-24 with a 4-yard TD run, but time ran out on the Tigers.
