A community discussion on crime in Modesto will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday on the microblogging site Twitter.
Dan Rogers of Modesto said he got the idea for the discussion last week when a wide area of Modesto was locked down during a manhunt for the suspects in the shootings deaths of two men.
Rogers, a stay-at-home father, said someone called him that morning wondering if Enochs High School was open.
"Instinctively, I just hopped on Twitter," he said. "It lit up."
Rogers and a few other people who are regular users of Twitter will moderate the discussion, which will be available at www.twubs.com/nomocrime.
Anyone wishing to take part in the discussion can go to the Twubs site and log in with a Twitter account ID. Twitter users can also follow the discussion on Twitter independent of Twubs by searching for "#nomocrime."
Rogers said he has invited the mayor, acting police chief, City Council members and candidates to take part in the discussion, although the mayor and police chief told him they were unavailable.
