Big Valley Christian must show it can overcome the loss of the greatest player in the program’s short history if the Lions hope to defend their Harvest Christian League crown.

Blake Sturdivan ran for 30 TDs and 1,598 yards last year, but the single-minded offense caught up to the Lions. They were upset 40-25 by Bradshaw Christian in a playoff opener.

Big Valley has another quality runner in D.J. Plichta, but the Lions need to get a passing game if they’re to beat contenders Stone Ridge Christian and Brookside Christian.

  • Poll:
Who will win the Harvest Christian League

Sierra Ridge, Wilton Christian and Millennium are the other teams in the six-team private-school league.
