Coach: Therion Green
Career record: 30-35
At school: 30-35
Last season: Denair (2-3, 2-8) lost seven straight before winning two of its last three, but all eight losses were by 14 or more points.
Last league title: 2006
Last playoff berth: 2007
Top returners: LB Brian Willis (5-9, 205), TE/LB Mitchell Helton (6-3, 205), QB Codee Watts (Jr., 6-0, 185), RB/QB Jose Galvan (Jr., 5-7, 155), OL/DL Craig Miller (6-0, 210), OL David Gama (6-2, 220), DL Jeff Gao (5-10, 205), K Paul Oei (5-7, 140), C Tyler Sanders (5-8, 200).
Top newcomers: RB Dylan Souza (Jr., 5-7, 160), RB/DB Nick Lafrancis (Jr., 6-7, 160), OL Eric Thornton (Jr., 6-0, 190).
Outlook: Eleven of 12 linemen are seniors, so Watts (56 of 135, 651 yards, 4 TDs, 13 INTs) is hoping better pass protection leads to better accuracy. His top two targets graduated, so the Coyotes need to come up with a couple new receivers. Galvan (569 yards, 5 TDs) averaged six yards a carry.
Worth noting: Like many SL teams, depth always is an issue at Denair. With about two dozen kids on the roster, the Coyotes will need to stay healthy to challenge. ... Willis is the leader on the defense with eight tackles a game a year ago.
Key game: Week 6 vs. Le Grand. The Bulldogs usually compete for the title, so this will be a nice SL-opening barometer for Denair.
