Modesto City Schools needs volunteers for a Reach-Out to Students and Families neighborhood walk Sept. 19.

Volunteers will knock on doors, hand out goody bags and talk to families about the importance of school. The walk will target neighborhoods where attendance and dropout rates are problems, including those blocks surrounding Shackelford, Bret Harte, Orville Wright, Franklin, Robertson Road, Kirschen and Tuolumne elementary schools.

Organizers also need donations for the walk, including T-shirts and water bottles for volunteers. Bilingual volunteers are needed.

For more information, call 576-4178 or go to mcs.monet.k12.ca.us and fill out the volunteer form on the main page. This effort is a partnership between Modesto schools, the city and businesses.
