Modesto Babe Ruth rolls in regional opener

The Modesto Babe Ruth team beat Nevada 19-1 in their opening game of the Pacific Southwest 16-18 Regional Championships in Watsonville on Thursday night.

Eli Davis, a sophomore at MJC, three doubles and five RBIs in the win, while Eddie McGrath of Oakdale had a home run, triple and three RBIs.

Tonight, Modesto plays host Watsonville.

The winner of the double-elimination tourney advances to Moses Lake, Wash., for the Babe Ruth World Series. Last year, Modesto made it to the final game before losing.
