Authorities are looking for a 27-year-old man in connection with a drive-by shooting Monday night that left one person dead.

Mark Allen Madewell, a transient, is a “person of interest” in the shooting, said Stanislaus County sheriff’s Sgt. Brandon Kiely.

The shooting happened just after 11:00 p.m. in the 1600 block of Atlantic Drive on Monday night.

Investigators say someone in a red SUV fired several shots at Xavier Morales, 29, as he sat in a car outside a house. Morales was shot in the head. He was transported to a local hospital. Morales died late Wednesday, said Kiely.

Madewell is described as a white male adult with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet 3 inches tall and 150 pounds. Madewell is on parole and is wanted on a parole violation, said Kiely.

Anyone with information about the case or of Madewell’s location should call Detective Jon McQueary at 525-7099.
