Many observing the holiday today

Here's what will be closed today in observance of the Fourth of July:

• County, city offices
• State government

Open are most commercial businesses, shopping malls and other retail outlets. Call individual locations for hours. Garbage pickup and mail delivery will be normal today. Post office hours will vary. In Modesto, the Hudson and Kearney post offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Paradise post office from 9 a.m. to noon and El Viejo post office from 8:30 a.m. to noon. No residential or business delivery on Saturday and post offices will be closed.

The Bee's advertising and business offices will be closed. The Bee's circulation customer service operation will take calls until 10 a.m. Customers can place ads and conduct business via modbee.com. The Bee's newsroom will be staffed to publish the paper and the modbee.com site.
