-- Name: Gregory Thornhill Wallace

Synopsis: Gregory Thornhill Wallace, 24, of Modesto died May 6 after a weekend shooting in south Modesto. His mother said her son was the victim of stray gunfire, though sheriff's officials have said they are "farily certain" the shooting was gang related. Esther Wallace said her son was driving alone in his Chevrolet pickup near Pecos and Alamo avenues when he drove into the crossfire of a shooting. She said investigators told her the target was a 21-year-old man, who was crossing the street. A sheriff's spokesman would not confirm that version of events. The 21-year-old man was treated and released at a hospital. On May 29, sheriff's detectives arrested a suspect in the slaying. Matthew Reyes, 19, of Modesto was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. He was being held at the Stanislaus County Jail without bail

Motivation: Authorities say they are "fairly certain" shooting is gang related, which has been challenged by the victim's mother.

Suspect: Matthew Reyes, 19, of Modesto
