SALIDA -- Name: Ronald Murphy

Synopsis: A 55-year-old Ceres resident Ronald Murphywas killed early May 2 after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Kiernan Avenue near Toomes Road in Salida, the California Highway Patrol reported. The man was walking north in an almond orchard west of Toomes and south of Kiernan when he entered Kiernan's eastbound lane about 2 a.m. An eastbound pickup struck the man and fled the scene, according to a CHP news release. The man was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He died on the way to or at the hospital, the CHP reported. His identity was not released pending notification of his family. Officer Kirk Arnold with the CHP's Traffic Management Center in Fresno said the incident has been classified as a felony hit-and-run with fatal injuries.
