Police say woman found dead was a homicide victim

A Modesto woman found dead in her downtown apartment last week was a homicide victim, police said this evening.

In a news release, police said they need the public’s help finding the person responsible for her death of Jacqueline Marie Borja Schmitz, 29.

On Wednesday afternoon, police were called to the 700 block of 18th Street after a woman was found unresponsive in her apartment. A property manager made the discovery during a routine check. There were no obvious signs of forced entry into the apartment.

Detectives believe Schmitz was last seen alive on Monday, May 4, 2008. They are seeking anyone who may have seen her in the days and weeks before she was found dead.
