Downey High School history teacher Jason Taylor will stage a 24-hour bicycle ride June 6-7 to benefit the Daniel Hyde Memorial Scholarship Fund at Downey High. And he'll kick off the event with a wine and beer tasting Saturday at the Angels' Share Wine Shop, at Sylvan Avenue and Oakdale Road in Modesto, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Taylor's "Ride for Hyde" will honor the former Downey High student and athlete killed in Iraq. Hyde, a 24-year-old Army lieutenant, was killed March 7. Taylor is seeking sponsors for the ride and hopes to raise money at the tasting event as well.
The cost is $20 for wine tasting or $10 for beer tasting. The scholarship fund will receive half of the tasting proceeds and all those generated by raffle sales.
