Stanislaus County Red Cross looking for everyday heroes

American Red Cross Stanislaus County Chapter is seeking nominations everyday heroes.

Nominees must live or work in Stanislaus County, but the heroic act may have occurred elsewhere and at any time within the past 24 months.

Heroes will be recognized in 12 categories, including: Good Samaritan (senior, adult, youth), law enforcement, professional rescue, medical, military, workplace, education, animal, Spirit of the Red Cross and Stanislaus Hero of the Year.

Winners will be recognized at the third annual Heroes Breakfast on June 3, where the Red Cross will honor: "Heroes Among Us -- Ordinary People, Extraordinary Compassion."

Deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. April 24 at 1230 Sixth St., Modesto 95354.

The American Red Cross Stanislaus Chapter has been around for 92 years and provides services to the county including single-family disaster response; emergency military communication; emergency disaster response; disaster and preparedness education; first aid, CPR and aquatic courses; health and safety training; and its own programs to provide shoes for kids and blankets for the homeless.
