KEYES — Officers arrested a Keyes man this afternoon on suspicion of mayhem after, they said, he stabbed a man in a fight, leaving him with a "severe laceration" to the face.

Authorities received a call about a fight with a knife in the 5400 block of Seventh Street about 2 p.m., said deputy Andrew Winter of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

When they arrived, they found a Keyes man in his 50s who had been cut in the face, Winter said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man knew only the first name of his attacker, but other witnesses in the area gave officers the assailant's full name, said Winter.

Officers found the man's address, in the 5500 block of 10th Street, and arrested him without incident.

The Sheriff's Department identified the man as 62-year-old John Sanchez. He is being held on suspicion of mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon with bail of $50,000, Winter said.
