OAKDALE — A 24-year-old Modesto woman died Friday morning after her car veered off a rural road, spun out and crashed into an abandoned house on Patterson Road, just west of Kaufman Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Rena Homa was taken by ambulance to Oak Valley Hospital in Oakdale, where she later died of her injuries, the CHP reported.
The single-vehicle crash occurred about 8:40 a.m. just south of Oakdale. The CHP reported there was light fog at the time of the crash with about 700 to 1,000 feet of visibility.
The woman was driving a 1995 Honda Civic east on Patterson at an unknown speed and approaching Kaufman.
For an unknown reason, the woman allowed the Honda to veer off the south side of the road and onto the grass road shoulder, according to the CHP.
The woman steered to the left to get back on the road, but she overcorrected and had to steer back to the right, the CHP reported. The car then rotated clockwise in a southeasterly direction before running off the road’s south side, a second time, and slid sideways across the road shoulder.
The Honda then struck a wire fence and continued to move in a southeasterly direction. CHP officials said the car then moved across a dirt driveway and collided head-on with a raised concrete foundation of the abandoned house.
Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to the CHP. Witnesses told CHP officers, the woman appeared to be leaning over momentarily just before the car went off the road.
Nobody else was in the car.
