Body of Newman soldier killed in Iraq arrives in Modesto

The body of Army Spc. Tony Jerold Gonzales of Newman, who was killed in Iraq, arrived at the Modesto airport today.

Family members were present as the soldier's casket arrived on a chartered jet.

Gonzales, 20, was in an Army Humvee on Dec. 28 when an improvised explosive device detonated near the vehicle in Sadr City, Iraq.

A funeral is scheduled at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella after a procession from Newman.
