STANISLAUS COUNTY -- Detectives said a man found dead in a west Modesto home Sunday was shot to death along with two dogs, authorities reported today.
The victim has been identified as William Ashley, 55, said deputy Royjindar Singh, spokesman for the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.
It’s the fifth homicide of the year for the department, he said.
Authorities found Ashley and the dogs about 11:30 a.m. Sunday in a home in the 1500 block of Victoria Drive.
On Sunday, emergency workers were called to the home after two people reported that a man inside was possibly not breathing, said Singh. Firefighters forced their way inside and found Ashley.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Singh said two people who knew the man called authorities after they showed up at the home and determined something was wrong.
Detectives have not released any suspect info, Singh said, but are following up on leads.
