Turlock police are searching for a black or dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon with shiny chrome rims that may be the getaway vehicle in the stabbing death of a 41-year-old man near the Stanislaus County Fairground on Wednesday night.

Police found Ignacio Alvarez of Turlock lying in the grass in front of an apartment complex in the 1000 block of West Canal Drive at 10:16 p.m.

He had been stabbed at least once in the upper torso. Police believe Alvarez was visiting someone in one of the apartments. They served a search warrant there but have not found a motive for the stabbing. Alvarez was taken to Emanuel Medical Center and died there, police said.

The possible suspect vehicle was last seen driving east from the crime. Police have not found any witnesses. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective J.D. McWilliams at 668-5550, ext. 6668. Callers can leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 521-4636 and may be eligible for a cash reward.
