Name: Clarence "Buddy" Mason

Synopsis: On April 29, Mason was walking his dog with a friend about 2:30 a.m. near Kerr and Larkin avenues when a man shot them. Mason, 51, was killed. His friend was shot in the leg but survived. Police said the shooter, later identified as Maurilio Vasquez, had ridden by the men on a bicycle and was having trouble steering. Mason and his friend laughed at him and, authorities said, Vasquez shot them.

Motivation: Vasquez is a gang member, police said. Authorities believe the men's laughter may have provoked the shooting.

Suspect: Maurilio Vasquez of Modesto

Status: Vasquez remains at large.

Authorities ask anyone with information about this homicide to call Detective Phil Owen at 572-9589 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636.
