Name: Valdemar Rojas Jr.
Synopsis: Rojas, 14, of San Jose and a teenage friend from Modesto were riding their bicycles along Marlow Street, just north of Robertson Road, when a white sedan drove up next to them. The occupants began shooting at the teens, who fled east onto Rock Pine Court. The car chased the boys to the end of the cul-de-sac, and the occupants fired again. The suspects fled as the boys tried to seek refuge in nearby homes. Rojas' 15-year-old friend was treated and released from a hospital.
Motivation: The shooting happened just hours after a 22-month-old was shot in west Modesto. The toddler survived. Police never said whether the shootings were related. Police believe the shooters in both attacks were gang members.
